This is a really stunning essay which is in many ways the archetypal nature essay, in that it reminds us of the importance of solitude in among nature, for settling back into the self. It was published in 1971 and feels even more relevant today than it was back then, with the advances of technology and the difficulty we all have in finding physical spaces, and those places in ourselves where we are able to completely shut off from outside stimulus and influence.
